Another original work I wrote on a whim. I was looking for writing exercises to jump my brain juice and there was one that was really interesting. The prompt was “Write a POV of a dead person at a funeral”. Here we are, please enjoy this small writing piece. I definitely had fun writing it. <3

Tragic Love Stories
Valentine’s Day has passed, but that hasn’t stopped many to continue their adoration to their partners or announce their declaration to the world. When one interprets romance in literature, many pieces revolve around love at first or second sight, or conquering classes and situational events. Then, others gravitate to ghost stories, scandals, and operas spiraling with insanity and tragedy.

Celebrating the Year of the Tiger: Reading List
February 1st, 2022 marks the celebration of the Lunar New Year. Whether it’s called Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year, this day has been the most essential and exciting holiday for me and my family; I remember watching parades lined with red and gold, the sound of fire crackers and drums, and being amazed by the lion costume dancing to each business blessing them for wealth and prosperity. This year, we welcome the tiger, the zodiac representing confidence and ambition.

The Outsider: Doppelgängers & Monsters
What a great way to relax during the holidays like reading a supernatural crime thriller by one of the greatest writers of modern horror. My goal is to read at least three book per month, and I subsequently came across The Outsider by Stephen King as a recommendation. The novel was adapted into a limited series in 2020 starring Ben Mendelsohn starring as the titular character Ralph Anderson. Many huge differences from the book, but nonetheless eerie in its own right.

Small Things Like These: Example of Gentle Kindness
The shortest story can make a massive impact in our lives; Shirley Jackson’s uneasy plot of The Lottery and Ernest Hemingway’s destructive nature of The Old Man and the Sea are just a couple of phenomenal works in classic literature. Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan is and will be a contender of short literature with unforgettable storytelling and a meaningful moral, anyone can abide by.

The Last Duel: An Antithesis of Chivalry
A historical account researched and written by Medieval Literature professor Eric Jager, The Last Duel tells a tale of a legally permitted duel so primeval that changed the legal systems of the Middle Ages. The novel illustrates a riveting page turner of true crime, scandal, and a story so ludicrous and frustrating, readers can feel a familiarity to victims’ accounts in our current period.

The World will Crumble
Also, last week was Thanksgiving, and it was quite hectic. I didn’t have the time or effort to write. I apologize! Anyway, here is my original piece called “The World will Crumble”. This was inspired by an old love that might be held for a long time, to be forgotten is not an option. Please enjoy!

Mexican Gothic: The Horror of Colonization
Although Halloween is over, I was able to discover some new materials of gothic literature and horror-Nevertheless, I was determined to read Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Before Goodreads, I relied on Buzzfeed’s recommended reading list; I understand that some may argue it might not be the best source for curated literary collections, but I kept seeing this novel everywhere online. Moreno-Garcia’s novel actually debuted in October 2020, but I finally finished it, er, two weeks ago, and wow; A lot of symbolism, motifs, but I wanted to focus on one, so here we go.

A Brief Exploration of Dark Academia
Century-old universities, cold brick stone halls, earth-tone vintage uniform. What a sense of nostalgia to feel as if we’ve travelled back in time. The peak interest of classical education ,with a moody flare, has encouraged many wide-eyed future scholars to live a romantic lifestyle of Dark Academia.

The Metamorphosis: Fictional Tragedy or Personal Fable?
To wake up one morning, realizing you’ve transformed in a repulsive giant roach-like insect would be a horrifying experience one can imagine. Dread and anxiety overwhelms your mind, thinking how can loved ones approach you in a sane manner.
